Tips for Completion

Tips for Efficient Completion of the Grant Application

We suggest that you follow these steps in order to most effectively complete a grant application:

  1. Review all of the questions through the Application Questions link.
  2. Review the Sample Application link -- it provides sample applications submitted to the Abington Foundation. We noted that these applications were written specifically to answer the questions. They were concise and direct and avoided repetition. We understand that this online application requires a different kind of writing than other traditional proposals. Detailed backgrounds, case statements, and narratives written for other purposes that depend more on persuasive and creative use of language do not work as well in this format. Bulleted or numbered lists and simple sentence structure read better, and ultimately help the Foundation understand the programs that fit its priorities.
  3. Collect the requested information and documents before beginning the online process.
  4. Complete the Application, including attaching the documents specified on the last page of the application. For the attachments, please attach documents in Excel, PDF or Word formats.  Please note that you must "Upload" each document separately to properly attach the documents to your application.

Other Tips

  • Use Word for the open-ended questions and then copy and paste the text into the online application.
  • IMPORTANT - Do not use your browser's BACK button while filing out the application - you will lose all unsaved data.
  • Save your work regularly. Use the save button at the bottom of each page in the application. We will see your application only after you click the submit button.
  • You may stop working on your application before it is complete and return to it at a later time. If you choose to save your work, you will need your user name and password to return to your partially complete application.
  • Once an application is submitted, you cannot add, modify or delete the application or any part of it through the online system. If you find that you need to make an important change to your application after you have submitted it, please contact us directly.
